HERITAGE BUILDING BALUSTRADE RESTORATION
Restoration and replication of heritage steel balustrades for a protected Melbourne building.
The Challenge
A heritage-listed building required restoration of its original steel balustrades, many of which were damaged or missing. The project demanded exact replication of original profiles, decorative elements, and patina finishes while meeting current safety standards.
Our Solution
Working from historical photographs and surviving original sections, our team reverse-engineered the balustrade profiles. Using a combination of laser cutting for flat elements and traditional metalworking for formed details, we created faithful reproductions. The finishing team developed a custom patina process to match the aged appearance of retained original sections.
Results & Outcomes
“The level of craftsmanship Axis brought to this heritage project was outstanding. The new sections are indistinguishable from the originals, and the heritage authority was impressed with the attention to detail.”
